Snow Day

I don't think this picture has anything to do with our snow day...but it's cute. She looks like she is reflecting on some sad news.
We had a "snow day" on Tuesday because of the ice storm that came through Dallas, so Josh got to be home! I was happy to harass - I mean - hang out with him. ;)

Josh was able to work from home using his laptop.
It was cold! I was wearing a hat and scarf with my jacket in the house.
Annie was happy to have daddy home, too.
What are you looking at?

Pictures from January

Annie really likes being upside down. I like it too because I can tickle her under her chin!

Annie really likes to grab things now. Here she is trying to get the camera. A budding photographer!

Annie really likes her aunt Katie.

A Couple of Thoughts on Recent Movies

We saw Despereaux this weekend (thanks for babysitting Kates!) and enjoyed it. I didn't expect it to be as dark since it was a children's movie, but I really liked the theme of forgiveness. Josh liked that the little mouse was brave and a hero in spite of large odds. One of his favorite songs is Hero by Steve Taylor, so this movie definitely struck a chord with Josh. I probably would not take my 5 year old (when she's 5 anyway) to see it unless I knew she could handle suspense and scary rats pretty well. It was cute to hear little kids in the theater asking their mommies and daddies if the princess was gonna be okay. "Look, she's going to be alright - Despereaux is going to save her!".

We also recently watched Lars and the Real Girl. There were unfortunately comments that could have been removed, but I appreciated the movie showing the humanness of people. This guy in a small town has social problems and does not visit people, but stays home all the time. If I could sum up his whole life it would be fear. He lives in a garage near his late father's house, where his brother and sister-in-law live. His family starts to worry about him when he shows up at their door with a life sized doll, claiming that she is his girlfriend. Throughout the movie he acts as if she is real, talking to her and taking her everywhere. His brother and sister-in-law ask the local doctor what to do for Lars since he is having this delusion. The dr. merely suggests to play along with it. She (the dr.) works with the doll every week saying that it has a blood pressure problem, using the treatment time to actually talk with Lars. It is sort of confusing at first, but you find out Lars' root problem is that his mother died in childbirth - his childbirth. His father and brother didn't talk to him much and sort of forgot about him. Anyway, it gets resolved at the very very very end. I was surprised that it didn't show him getting better quicker, say half the movie, and then the rest of the movie having him interact with others. It was good, but on the slower and more thoughtful side. I haven't seen one of those since I got married!

Home Changes

We are slowly but surely changing stuff around the house. Right now we are working on the front bathroom.

These are before pictures. :) I won't post the after ones 'till it's ALL done.

We painted the living room walls a nice green color.

Annie and her socks.
Josh was teaching Annie to put her feet in the air.

Day after Christmas Excitement

Yes this is our car. Our faithful Honda. On the way to visit family after Christmas we had a small accident with a person pulling out in front of us while we were going 50 mph. We all are okay and the person's car suffered some scratch marks. We're glad no one was injured and the person's insurance company, since it was their fault, is taking care of things right now. Josh is quite happy with the rental car they provided: a 2008 Nissan Altima. It's fun to drive! We're hoping to get our car back soon though. :)

Christmas photos

I've finally been able to post a few pictures from Christmas!

Our stockings. Guess which one is Annie's? I put jar of peaches (baby food) in her's, along with some socks that rattle at the end.
She liked the socks in her hands better than on her feet. She now grabs her toes and has rolled over once in an effort to grab the socks from her feet!
Annie's "big" gift: A bouncer that is much like an Exersaucer but with a springy bottom. She loves it!

Post Toasties

We had a nice Christmas and New Years, hope yours was great too! It's been such a whirlwind and I have not gotten back to blogging until now. Obviously. Hmm...I wonder if I could come up with more obvious statements.

My internet connection is being strange today too, I hope I can post these pictures. Maybe it's the ice storm (teensie one) outside.

Well, the connection is being too flakey, but I will at least post to let everyone know we are alive. We survived our first car wreck, are remodeling the bathroom, and I have a cold. Annie has been learning she can grab things now and wants to do what we do (as in eat or drink from a glass not a bottle). Hopefully I can get some pics up later!

love to all! except Patrick. (just kidding man, I know you don't read this anyway)
